Summary
After trying Battle Balm's Demon Strength out myself for the last two weeks, and my son Brett has used it off and on for about a month now, I scoured the Battle Balm webpage and found the page entitled, 20 Uses For Battle Balm®...and Still Counting.Outside of pain relief, I was most impressed to see this used for sinus & congestion (who needs Vicks!), burns, bug bites and cracked heels! There's a few things in that list I'm going to experiment with in the future. That's for sure.
According to the Pain Chart, Original or Extra Strength would be best for chronic pain, but I have to say that the Demon Strength performed wonderful for me.
Brett was very happy with the relief he achieved using Demon Strength as well. Of course, results will vary, but I can only tell you some of the uses that we have tried, and the positive outcome which we received. Our trial experiments with Battle Balm included both the tube and the tin, and they both are conveniently sized and can be easily carried in your gym bag, purse or even a jacket pocket. I think the stick is going to magically make it to my desk drawer at work!
Over the years, having tried numerous over the counter topical pain treatments, Battle Balm is definitely a ray of organic, herbal sunshine among a sea of chemical options.
Initial Observations
I was given the opportunity to try out and review Battle Balm Demon Strength. I was supplied with both the 2.0 oz. tin and the 0.75 oz stick. These products were used by both myself and Brett; with Brett being the Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai practitioner. After reading the list of ingredients, I was prepared for a strong yet pleasant menthol/minty aroma. A few ingredients that I recognized right off the bat are the menthol, jojoba, wintergreen and arnica. A full list of ingredients can be found on their website by clicking here.Putting Battle Balm To The Test - Athlete Style
Brett first tried the Demon Strength after Jiu Jitsu training. His first experience was on his arms, primarily his forearms, and elbows. He was still feeling the effects of tennis elbow and the exacerbation after training. When he got home he was sore, and we thought this would be an opportune time to try the Battle Balm.Starting with just a small dab on his fingers, it worked into the skin nicely. ( NOTE – for applying this product, please start small because you can always apply more. You might not start feeling the icy/heat effects the moment you put it on, but give it thirty seconds to a minute and I promise that you will feel it.) That icy/heat sensation stays for a bit, once it calms down, you will notice a change in the pain level you are experiencing, and not just being hidden by the icy/heat sensation.
On another occasion, after Muay Thai, he had a few knots, aches and bruises. After taking a long hot shower, he applied the Battle Balm to his arms and thighs and massaged it in. Shortly thereafter, everything was noticeably feeling relatively normal again. He noticed that it also seemed to work its way into the skin better AFTER showering. Later on he discovered that application of the Battle Balm allowed for a more comfortable nights sleep.
The next morning he woke up more relaxed and less tense than he normally does after a hard night of class. If you decide to use this product before classes, make sure you apply it early so that your partner, or entire class, is not effected by the scent. It does holds its scent for some time.

I, on the other hand, have a lower back injury (primarily herniated disks and arthritis), and a wrist injury as well. And after using our Battle Balm, I can tell you that is it definitely not just for athletes!! My prior experience with any kind of topical application was with Biofreeze, which honestly was just a bit too much for my liking. Outside of that, pain pills and muscle relaxers – ugh! After 12 yrs of back pain, I recently had branch nerve blocks (RF ablation) done on both the left and right sides of my back at L3,4 and 5. Now that I can't feel the nerve pain – I'm up and about and doing more than I have in years. Needless to say, the more I do, the more I find myself with new and different aches and pains; especially in the lower back muscles, between the shoulder blades and in the neck.
Battle Balm has been a remarkable pain reliever for these areas for me.
Final Thoughts
So, if you have ever over done it when performing yard work, working on the car, moving, or countless other physical activities that task the body and muscles in ways we don't normally experience in the day to day of our lives, then you know the aches and pains that I'm speaking of. Just a couple dabs of Battle Balm on the fingers and rub it in! A few more for a more intense feeling.Surprisingly, it's not greasy! Touching the skin after application, I can tell something is there, but the skin is soft. I found the stick more convenient to use for my wrist – just pass it over the wrist lightly (I went all the way around). Battle Balm quickly soothed the achy creaky feeling in my wrist. Sitting at the computer typing for long periods of time has become easier. I'll be sleeping pretty comfy tonight and wake up refreshed, not stiff as a board.
We will definitely be maintaining a healthy supply of Battle Balm in our house, gym bag, car and office from here on out. And we would recommend that you give it a try yourself. You will definitely notice an improvement and you may also find other uses that we have yet to discover.
Disclaimer
The purpose of this review is simply to provide the reader with some basic observations of our use of Battle Balm, and not to provide any warranty or guaranty of the product and how it will perform for you or other parties.Use any medicinal product, including Battle Balm, wisely and at your own risk. Read and follow the directions. Don't get it in your eyes or on your genitals. And no matter how good it smells, do not ingest it.
Keep this and any similar products away from children, pets, the elderly and that crazy Uncle who comes over every Christmas to drink all the eggnog. In other words, don't leave it in the medicine cabinet where anyone and everyone has access to it. Do what I do, keep it under lock and key right next to your Smith & Wesson.
We also suggest that you do not leave it unattended at your gym. After 10 minutes of being dormant and in a strange place, apparently Battle Balm sprouts legs and walks off on its own to find help. And no one ever seems to see this happening, but it's the only explanation we can come up with for the numerous missing containers.
If in using this product your arm or leg falls off, your sex drive becomes uncontrollable, or you start growing hair in places otherwise thought impossible, don't come back to BJJ New Gear and blame us. You are an adult, take some responsibility for your choices and actions in life.

If that happens, we got you covered. But other than that, you are an adult and responsible for your purchase decisions, knowing how to read and how follow directions. Oss.
