Should I Trade or Should I Sell?

Should I Trade or Should I Should I Sell?

Fairly frequently I get asked this same question in different ways. Hear are a few.
  1. Would you trade an A1L Ring for an A3 7th Son V2?
  2. Would you trade an A2 Yank for an A3 Yank?
  3. Would you trade a Shoyoroll Rio Koi for an CTRL Gigante?
  4. Would you trade a BNIB White Skies for a Used Blue Skies?
  5. Would you trade an A1 Illest for an A1 Rebel?
And those are just a few different angles that trades can take. Do you see a pattern? I don't. But I do see many issues of trading that make it a much less desirable method to achieve your goals than would selling what you own and then applying those monies to what you want to buy. And here is why.

Number 1

In #1 above, the consideration here is to trade a classic, lower-production Shoyoroll of one size, for a newer, high-production batch Shoyoroll of another size. So two issues come into play. Not only does this dilemma contemplate trading "out of size," but the value differences between the two gis are far off. Probably by as much as 100%.

Number 2

This one is a little easier to deal with. The proposed trade is for the same batch of gi, but for a different size. So as in #1 above, this trade would be "out of size." However that is a lot easier to do when you are talking only one size up (or down) and both gis being the same batch. It's never "easy," but this one is easier than that in #1.

Number 3

While no size is offered in this trade, the challenge in this #3 is trading one brand (Shoyoroll) for another brand (CTRL). And while sometimes that can be done with ease, oftentimes it hits a brick wall with one party or the other. Sure their are crossover fans from CTRL to Shoyroll and back again. But there are also hardcore fans of each that would not be caught dead in a gi from the other brand.

Number 4

While the value of a BNIB White Skies may be equal to that of a Use Blue Skies, the challenge that this trade presents is mixing a BNIB gi with a Used one. Personally, I have had bad experiences accepting a used gi in trade for a BNIB one, regardless of the value. As a result, I won't do it again.

Number 5

This is an extreme example of the difference in value between one batch and another batch. The value of a BNIB Illest is 300% or 400% more than a Rebel. Yet it's still one gi for another gi. So some people have a hard time wrapping their brain around that value difference.

I even had one guy ask for my A1L inventory once because he had a gi to trade. So I gave him my entire inventory. He picked the Illest. And with over $1,000 in value difference I asked him to send me the $ and we'd make the trade. Well he got all up in a huff and offended because I didn't want to make a straight trade with him. Again, both parties were not of the same mind.

Trading Issues

I have been involved in many gi trades over the years, from the simple to the complex. From straight trades of one gi for another gi, to trades of multiple gis involving multiple people and money as well. So trading can definitely be done if everything is in place, all people are reasonable and honest, and everyone gets what they want out of the trade. But that requires more than just an understanding and agreement by two parties on the value of two (or more) gis. It requires desire as well.

For example. If John has a BNIB Mamba and is approached by Alex for a trade in which Alex wants to make the trade using his BNIB V1 Absolute, is that a reasonable trade? I don't think so. The Mamba is (as of the time of this post) a gi valued at up to $750, while the Absolute is at or under it's drop price because of many issues. So it's a $200 +/- gi.

That doesn't automatically mean that John won't make the trade. But Alex will have to come up with some cash to make it happen. The question becomes whether or not Alex will do so and if he values the gis at these same price points or not. And so it goes.

So one Trading Issue is a mutual understanding of the value of the gis being traded.

And then there is the mutual desire for what the other person has to trade. As in the above example, if John doesn't want an Absolute, then what? And that's a common issue, especially when gis of other brands are involved.

Next, the size factor comes into play. If Alex's Absolute is an A4 and he's lost weight so he wants John's A3 Mamba, while John may want an Absolute in his collection, he may not want an A4 because it doesn't fit him.

What Does It Take?

To effectuate a trade, all parties must have the following:
  • A mutual understanding of the value of the gis involved. And if they are not equal (which is often the case), than they must also have...
  • A willingness to pay/accept money as a part of the trade to offset the difference in the values of the gis.
  • A desire to accept the other party's gi in trade. This includes many sub-issues such as batch, condition and size.
  • A receptiveness to the concept of trading vs. just selling and getting the equity out of the gi.
  • An inclination to deal with and pay for the shipping of the gi. This is especially a factor when mailing internationally where the postal expense can be prohibitive.
Now, with all of these factors that must be in alignment for a trade to occur where all parties are mutually satisfied, do you now see why I tell people all the time to:

Sell your gi, and use that cash to buy what you want.

Isn't that much simpler?

What is Shoyoroll's GUMA?

October 2017 UPDATE:
Shoyoroll Brand has ended it's Guma program after 6 years. The below text will remain in tact to help new ShoyoFans understand what Guma once was..and what they missed out on.

Guma, and its upgraded sister, Uber Guma, are membership programs of Shoyoroll Brand. As a Guma or Uber Guma Member (collectively "GUMA") you get special privileges that are beneficial to fans of Shoyoroll ("ShoyoFans") who have certain objectives. More on all of this below.

The purpose of this blog is to simply outline GUMA, it's cost, benefits and negatives so that you can easily gain an understanding of the program and determine if it is something that you might want to consider in the future.

What is Guma Reserve?

Guma Reserve ("Guma") is a paid annual membership of Shoyoroll Brand, which guarantees members first access to many online kimono releases through the Shoyoroll web store. In addition, Guma members receive exclusive access to Guma-only releases, as well as a 10% discount on some merchandise.

History

Guma Reserve as it's officially known, started in 2012. Uber Guma was launched three years later in 2015 in an effort to honor the Guma members who have been with Shoyoroll since the inception of the program. Quite frankly, GUMA is a fantastic concept and has an unbelievable success for both Shoyoroll Brand and its fans.

Cost

For Guma the fee has consistently been $300 + shipping. For Uber Guma, it's twice that. But in reality there is no "cost" because as a Guma member, come springtime you get a nice package in the mail that has the Annual Guma Gi, a tee shirt and other "mystery" item(s).

As an Uber Guma member you get the Guma package plus the Annual Uber Guma gi, tee shirt and other "mystery" item(s). The combined secondary market value of these items easily meets or exceeds the cost of the membership. So the fee is well worth it to most ShoyoFans.

How Do You Get GUMA?

If you are an existing GUMA member in good standing, come October/November you'll receive a renewal notice from Shoyoroll via email. It is that simple. As long as you are not asleep and miss the opportunity renew, you are good as gold.

If you are not yet a Guma member, sometime in the Summertime Shoyoroll will announce that it is opening up the next years Guma membership to new members. At least that is what they have done for the past couple of years.

They then launch a dedicated website where interested ShoyoFans can sign-up and get in line for any potential openings in the membership. In the past this has occurred in mid-August. It should be noted that once you signup you will not hear from Shoyoroll if you've been selected until the renewals are complete sometime in the late Fall.

There is no cost or obligation to throw your hat in the ring for any opening in the membership. Monies are only due if you are selected and chose to sign up at that time.

How Many Guma Members Are There?

Only Shoyoroll knows. And now that Shoyoroll has opened up in Europe and Japan, and offered Guma to Europe, it has to be well over 1,000 strong.

As far as Uber Guma goes, the freshman class of 2015 was fairly small  because it was made up of only those who had been Guma since the inception in 2012. The estimate here is somewhere between 150 and 200 Uber Guma members.

However, for 2016 Shoyoroll has opened up its Uber Guma to more members, some of them even FIRST TIME Guma members in 2015. So that 150 to 200 is likely nearly double for 2016.

And it should be noted that many original 2015 Uber Guma members are pretty unhappy with Shoyoroll opening up Uber to people who have only been Guma for less than a year. The air of exclusivity has been tainted with this decision.

How Is Uber Guma Different From Guma?

Well, Uber today is what Guma was in 2012/2013. In other words, Uber is an exclusive club of a limited number of people who have access to small production batches of gis made just for them. Because Guma is so large now it is no longer an exclusive club. It seems virtually everyone is Guma these days, and the numbers are growing each year. But Uber is a much smaller, tight-nit community of ShoyoFans.

So here are a few ways where it is different.
  • You get the Annual Uber Guma package, including gi, tee shirt and other "mystery" item.
  • For some gi batches there is an exclusive Uber-only colorway. For example, in 2015 the following Uber-only colorways were offered to the Uber Guma members: RVCA (blue), Leo V. Human Chess (Navy Blue), Magik (Blue), Clear Skies (White with blue collar).
  • Access to some in-person drops. In 2015 this only occurred with two drops, and is a major bone of contention with the Uber members who had hoped to get access to more than just these two. But they got access to the Black A&P batch 5, and the PIFA white gi.

How About Albino & Preto ("A&P")

Up until 2015 the answer was "no." But as of 2015 there have been occasional A&P gis put into the Guma program. In 2016, Shoyoroll/AP announced the "AP Reserve" program. Essentially this is the mirror image of GUMA for AP products. The mechanics and costs for the first year of AP Reserve (2017) were the same as that of GUMA. Time will tell how this new program works out.

What is NOT Included

You don't get your 10% GUMA discount on any A&P drops, you have to be an AP Reserve member for that. And you don't get a first look at or right to reserve anything other than gis. So no hats, tees or rash guards. Not even for Uber Guma. And it would make sense if Shoyoroll started to include these ancillary items for AT LEAST the Uber Guma members. But as of 2015, this is not the case. It's only for gis.

Prior GUMA Packages

So, my best recollection as to what the prior packages were is as follows.

2012

1751 Georgetown Gi + 2012 Guma Gym Bag

2013

Black Skies Gi + Hoodie + Lanyard

2014

Guma 2014 Gi + Hoodie + Water Bottle

2015

Guma = Guma 2015 Gi (white with gold trim), + Silver Foil Tee Shirt + Silver Key Chain & Bottle Opener

Uber Guma = The above Guma package + Uber Guma 2015 Gi (same as the Guma gi, but Black colorway with gold), + Gold Foil Tee Shirt + Gold Key Chain & Bottle Opener.

2016

Guma = Guma 2016 Gi (white with maroon trim/accents), + Guma Tee Shirt + Guma Hoodie.

Uber Guma = The above Guma package (except for the hoodie) + Uber Guma 2016 Gi (grey with contrast lapel) + Shoyoroll Jacket (in lieu of the hoodie), and some Shoyoroll branded finger tape.

European GUMA received the same package as above + a foam hand.

GUMA Positivities

Well, the 10% discount you get on the gis basically pays for shipping. And with the retail cost of Shoyoroll's gis constantly going up, any little bit helps. But the two main positives are as follows:
  • You never miss a gi drop. Days before the public drop all GUMA members get to log into the GUMA section of the Shoyoroll website and place their orders. So there is no more dealing with the public drops and frustration in failing to secure a gi because you were 2 seconds late to the drop.
  • The other nice aspect to GUMA is the exclusive gis and colorways. For most gi batches that Shoyoroll drops they will make a distinctive colorway for Guma-only and possibly for Uber Guma-only purchase. So while the public only gets to purchase, say the White colorway, Guma might get to purchase the white as well as the Guma-only Black. And Uber Guma have it even better, able to purchase the White, the Guma Black AND, say, the Uber Guma Blue.
So as you can see, if you are a gi hoarder and like a variety of different gis for your rotation, then GUMA is for you.

GUMA Negatives

The primary negative of Guma is this (taken verbatim out of my renewal notice):
  • Member purchases will be monitored. Those who are abusing membership privileges may be subject to cancellation of current membership and being denied access to purchase a future membership.
  • Members are prohibited from reselling merchandise on private websites, commercial websites and/or other resell channels.
  • Failure to abide by the rules, terms and conditions of Guma Reserve Membership as stated, will result in your membership being revoked/canceled, without refund.
  • Shoyoroll reserves the right to cancel membership(s) at any time, at our discretion without refund.
One problem to these onerous rules is that they are selectively enforced by Shoyoroll. They play favorites. So beware.

These "handcuffs" as I like to call them are a major restriction if you like to buy & sell gis. And unless you have a rotation with 20+ Shoyoroll gis, then why do you really need GUMA? You don't. If you are the average person with 2 or 3 gis in your rotation and purchase one new gi per year, then GUMA isn't for you.

Other than that, Guma and Uber Guma are fantastic programs and well worth trying to get (and keep) for many ShoyoFans.

I hope this brief write up was helpful. If you have any feedback, please feel free to leave it here, PM me on Facebook by clicking here. Or email me by clicking here.

Enjoy & good luck.

Shoyoroll Drama Free Instagram

Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell
("Drama Free")
on Instagram

LOCATION

@ShoyorollDramaFree

https://www.instagram.com/shoyorolldramafree/

BRIEF HISTORY

Shoyoroll Drama Free was first launched on Facebook in the Fall of 2015 as a group who's purpose was to provide a safe, friendly environment for all ShoyoFans to sell, buy and trade Shoyoroll gis and gear. It's that simple. Knowing that Facebook's group infrastructure is well suited for such activities that seemed to be the ideal venue for the launch of Drama Free. And so it began.

Despite Facebook having so many advantages for the Drama Free venture, our founders were also keenly aware of Facebook's limitations. Most notably the fact that people must first be a member of Facebook to join our group, post their wears, and even view the items for sale. And while there is a very large Shoyoroll following on Facebook, it is definitely not all-inclusive. In an effort to expand the reach of Drama Free and expose our members' offerings beyond Facebook, in mid-November 2015 we launched Drama Free's Instagram page

@ShoyorollDramaFree

PURPOSE

The inspiration for Drama Free's Instagram account was to provide additional exposure for our Facebook members' listings on a vehicle that reaches beyond Facebook. However, what we believe will be an additional benefit (and quite possibly overtake the primary benefit) is to give Shoyoroll fans who are on Instagram but not on Facebook (and those numbers are significant), a platform to buy, sell and trade their own Shoyoroll gis and gear in the secondary market without having to rely on eBay or other fee-for-service providers.

HOW TO SELL/BUY/TRADE YOUR SHOYOROLL GEAR

There are a few ways for you to participate in Drama Free and buy, sell or trade Shoyoroll gis and gear.

Members Of Facebook

The easiest way to participate if you are a Facebook member is to join our Drama Free group (see link below). Once you have joined then you are free to post your Shoyoroll gear for sale or trade, or scan and search the group for items that you are looking to purchase. It is that simple.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/ShoyorollDramaFree/

You can find Drama Free's posting guidelines here. Please read these before you start posting.

http://bjjnewgear.blogspot.com/2015/10/posting-items-for-sale-in-drama-free.html

For Facebook members who also want their posts featured on Drama Free's Instagram page, please read the section below under Cross Promotion - From Facebook to Instagram.

Instagram Followers

One primary reason for setting up the Drama Free Instagram account was to enable us to reach out to ShoyoFans who are on Instagram but not on Facebook. As a result, you also have a platform to buy, trade and sell Shoyoroll items for your own account.

And here is how you can participate and benefit from Drama Free's reach on both Instagram and Facebook.
  • Make a post on YOUR Instagram page. It can be a For Sale, For Trade, or ISO post. You name it. Just as long as it's in keeping with Drama Free's posting guidelines (linked here), you are fine.
  • TAG @ShoyorollDramaFree in your Instagram post.
  • When we see the tag, we will repost to the Shoyoroll Drama Free Instagram page, and later we will also share that information with our Facebook group IF you have an email address where you can be contacted in your original post.
Once you get notice of our repost, you can delete your original post if you wish, or keep it up. That is up to you.

Now, if your Instagram account is set to "private" then there one additional step to take. And we've tested this, so we know that it works.

First, perform the above two (2) steps of (a) posting on your Instagram, and (b) tagging @ShoyorollDramaFree. Then you need to:

  • Change your settings on your Instagram from Private to Public.
Once you change your settings we will get a notice of your tag. Then we can use the repost app to repost onto the Drama Free Instagram page. Once we do that, you will get notice our our repost, and then you can change your settings back to Private if you wish. You can even delete the original post on your Instagram at that time should you so desire.

Simple.

CROSS PROMOTION

Cross promoting between both Facebook and Instagram is a powerful marketing tool of Shoyoroll Drama Free that no one else has. As our membership  quickly grows in both Facebook and Instagram this will become an "added-value" advantage that all members and followers will benefit from.

The concept is simple: The more people that see your item for sale, the more likely you are to find the best buyer for it. And the more people that see your ISO post for the gi that you want to buy, the more likely it is that someone who owns that gi will see your post.

Why limit yourself to just posting on your own Instagram account or in one or more Facebook groups when you can tap into a much larger pool of serious Shoyoroll fans?

Now you don't have to. Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell will do both for you.

From Facebook to Instagram

If you are active in our Facebook group and you want your For Sale/Trade items or even ISO posts put on our Instagram, please provide at least one of the following in your post:
  • Your Instagram address, or
  • An email address where you can be reached.
In doing one or both of the above, it will be deemed as your desire for and permission granted to our Admin to copy your Facebook post onto Drama Free's Instagram. It's that simple.

When one of our Admin in the Facebook group sees your post, we will send it to our Instagram manager and he will add it to our page that same day/evening.

From Instagram to Facebook

Every day or two we will copy the information from all new posts on the Drama Free Instagram page into our closed group on Facebook. This will give anyone who is primarily following and utilizing Drama Free's Instagram the additional exposure of hundreds (and soon to be thousands) of ShoyoFans in our Facebook group.

Those that have an Instagram account can contact you there. But we recommend that you include an email address in all posts because many of the people on Facebook do not have an Instagram account. But they all have email.

Bumping Guidelines for Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell

Bumping Guidelines For

Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell

"Drama Free"

*****************
Note, if you want to better understand what "bumping" is, scroll to the BOTTOM of this post first.
*****************

Everyone shall be allowed to bump their posts ONCE PER WEEK ON A SPECIFIC DAY of the week according to the below schedule.

Utilizing the FIRST LETTER of your FIRST NAME (as you use on Facebook, be it your real name or not, that does not matter), you can ONLY bump YOUR posts on the corresponding day of the week per the below schedule. If you miss it one week, then you need to wait until the following week's Bump Day.

This way everyone will have a weekly “Bump Day” and the bumps of all group members will be spread out throughout the week and not occur all at one time. Plus, we don’t want people bumping every day. That is simply disrespectful to the other group members. Once a week, on a schedule, is reasonable.

UPDATE: It's been more than a year and the weekly bumping schedule seems to work well for the group. So let's stick to it.

Here are some other guidelines to bumping in the group:
  • You can only bump your own listings. Not the listings of others.
  • If you miss your Bump Day this week, then you need to wait until your next Bump Day the following week.
  • On ISO listings, if you make a comment such as, "still looking," that is a bump. Please, reserve that type of comment for your bump day. ANY comment will bump up your post to the top of the feed, so a comment like, "still looking" is a bump. The same goes for sale listings, if you write "still available" that's a bump in disguise. Please resist the urge to do that.
  • When you bump a listing, you should also take the time to update it.
  • If other people are regularly bumping your listing by making an innocuous comment like: “Is this still available,” then that will quickly become obvious and Admin will deal with it. So please don’t do that. By the way, if you are wanting to know if an item is still available, then it is best to PM the seller directly and NOT make a comment in the post. If you need to know why that is, just ask.
  • No ghostbumping.
  • And please, please, please UPDATE your listings as things change, and mark sold listings as SOLD. We really want to try and keep the group clean and only containing actively available products and needs.
Still wondering "WHY" do we need a bumping policy? Well, take a look at the blow image and you'll know. Here is one guys post in another group that shows his bumping. The names have not been changed to show the guilty. And this post originated on February 4th. So all these bumps were in the span of 4 days.

Now, what is NOT considered bumping, but will still bring your thread up to the top, and you can do anytime that you need to (and not just on your Bump Day).
  • Price updates, &
  • Availability updates where, say you have a single listing with 3 items in it and you sell one item, updating the main body of the listing and also making a comment in the thread, such as: “White gi sold, other two still available.” This is simply active management of your listing and acceptable.
In other words, factual changes to the listing are always welcome.

That’s it. Thank you for following all of our group guidelines that are meant to keep the group a safe, friendly, respectful and productive place.

If you are not yet a member of SYR Drama Free, please click here to join:

Ok, so if you want to better understand what "Bumping" is (or to "Bump" a post), here is the best explanation and guidance that I can provide.

First of all, bumping only works in Facebook GROUPS. It doesn't have any effect on a PAGE. And there is a difference. For the purposes of this information, Shoyoroll Drama Free is a GROUP. Yes, we do have a page, but that's not why you are here.

Ok, now that that has been established; moving on.

When a new post is allowed into a group it starts at the top of the feed. It will be the very first item you and everyone else sees when they access the group after the post is made. And then 10-seconds later when another post goes live in the group, that newer post replaces the prior post at the top of the feed. And so it goes.

Each time a new post is made in the group, the older posts get pushed down one notch. Over a period of days or a week a post can be buried under scores of newer posts. That's the nature of a GROUP on Facebook.

Now, if you look at Shoyoroll Drama Free or any group, you will see that the posts at the top of the feed are not necessarily the newest ones. And that is because Facebook's infrastructure was designed to keep the "hot topics" up at the top of the Groups. Therefore, anytime someone makes a comment under a post, no matter how old it is, that post is immediately thrust up to the top of the feed in that Group.

And this ^^^ is where "bumping" comes into play.

Bumping is when you (or any other person) makes a comment under an old post for the sole purpose of bringing it up to the top of the feed so that it gets noticed. That activity is called a "bump" or "bumping" a post. It's that simple.

Now, as you should have seen at the top of this blog, Shoyoroll Drama Free has guidelines on bumping. So please, before you head off back to the Group, scroll back up to the top or click below and read the guidelines. They are working well for our group. Bumping is fine, but over-bumping, ghost-bumping or bumping posts that are not yours will get you bumped right out of the group. Necro-bumping is fine however.

Posting Items FOR SALE in Drama Free

Posting Shoyoroll Items
In the Drama Free
Facebook Group

I'll try and keep this as short and simple as possible. These are the guidelines/recommendations for posting your Shoyoroll gis and gear for sale (or trade) in Drama Free.

SHARING vs. POSTING

When you "share" a post from one group (say "XYZ" group) into other groups like Drama Free, or even onto your own page, the only people who can see that post are members of XYZ Group. So any member of Drama Free who is NOT a member of XYZ can't see your post IN the Drama Free group. So sharing from one group to another is not recommended due to the privacy features of Facebook.

However, if you share from your own Facebook wall or a Page that you have set up for such purposes and you set the privacy to "Public," then sharing into Drama Free is fine and everyone in the group can see it. Again, the setting for the post must be "Public," not "Friends" or any other restricted option.

For most people, a direct post into Drama Free is what is recommended. That way all members of our group can see your post. But if you'd prefer to share and understand how to do it so that it accomplishes what you want to, we are wide open to allowing that as well.

ITEMS ALLOWED

Shoyoroll and Shoyoroll items only. Gis, rash guards, hats, patches, tee shirts, stickers, etc., it doesn’t matter. As long it is an authentic Shoyoroll item, then it can be sold, traded or bought in the group.

FOUR BASIC STEPS TO POSTING

Step #1

Determine how you are going to sell your item. Your choices include:
  1. Set a fixed price. (“For Sale, $350 + s/h”)
  2. Set a target price with "Or Best Offer." (“For Sale, $400 OBO”)
  3. Sell privately. (“For Sale, PM your offer to me directly”)
  4. Sell via Auction.
In an Auction, the seller sets the:
  • Duration
  • Start price
  • Incremental bids ($10 or $5 or $50…up to the seller)
  • Shipping
  • Payment methods
  • Other conditions.

Here is a brief Auction example:

For Sale – Auction Style
BNIB White Comp Standard XIII, Size A2
Start Price is $250.
Each successive bid should be at least $10 more than the previous bid.
Bid below in the comments section.
In addition to bid price, buyer also pays actual shipping expense.
Payment accepted by: PayPal, Venmo or Google Wallet.
Auction ends at 11:59 PM PST on July 4, 2015
Highest bidder must pay within 24 hours or Seller has the right to sell to other bidders.

Step #2

Photographs. If it is a BNIB gi, then the reality is that you don't need many pics, but a couple would be good if for no other reason to catch peoples attention and so everyone knows what batch or item you are talking about. Even stock photos or photos of the same batch from other sources are fine. But if it is a USED item, then you need LOTS of pics of the actual item so that the buyer can determine condition.

Step #3

The Basics
  • Size
  • Condition
  • Shipping
  • Payment Options

Step #4

If selling a USED item, then basic measurements are highly recommended. It takes all of 5 minutes and will keep you, as a seller, from having to deal with an unhappy buyer who bought your shrunken gi that doesn't fit him. We have some graphics to use as a guideline if needed.

Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell

Executive Summary

Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell
(“Drama Free”)

PURPOSE

To once-and-for-all have a safe, professional Facebook group and Instagram page dedicated to the purpose of buying, trading and selling YOUR Shoyoroll gis and gear. New or used, it doesn't matter as long as it is authentic.

Shoyoroll Drama free is primarily a transactional group for you to buy, trade and sell your own Shoyoroll gis and gear. We discourage other types of posts and prefer that socializing be done somewhere else. Of course, occasional friendly banter in comments of your friends' posts is fine.

"Shout-outs" to other Drama Free members with pictures of purchased or traded gear are encouraged. Those are positive messages bought about by a mutually-satisfactory experience.

Admin will also post information on upcoming Shoyoroll drops for all members to see.

GUMA MEMBERS

GUMA members can and are encouraged to have a “ghost” account to sell their items in Drama Free so that the true identity of GUMA members will remain anonymous. Drama Free has guidelines for setting up such an accommodation for GUMA members.

RULES

Drama Free is a zero-tolerance, professional group that will never, ever put up with any of the unbelievably childish, rude, abusive, immature and down right mean behavior that is prevalent in the other Shoyoroll buy/trade/sell groups.

There will be NO: Drama, Hate, Disrespect, Trolls, Negativity or Poaching allowed in Shoyoroll Drama Free EVER.

POSTING

Only AUTHENTIC Shoyoroll items.

Categories - For Sale (FS), In Search Of (ISO), and For Trade (FT).

For Sale (FS) Options - Set a fixed price, Set a target price with “OBO,” Sell privately (“PM your offers”), and Auctions will all be allowed. Each will have standards/guidelines for posting so that the group maintains a consistency and makes it easy for buyers to buy and sellers to sell, and in doing so is done with respect and fairness to all members.

For detailed information on Posting in Shoyoroll Drama Free, click here.

BANISHMENT

The primary ways to get kicked out of the Facebook group and/or blocked from the Instagram page include:
  • Making negative or derogatory comments under someone’s post.
  • Failing to keep to our policy of: What happens in Drama-Free, stays in Drama-Free. In other words, anyone that joins just to spy for the hate groups will be found out and booted.
  • Screwing someone over in a deal. This can take many forms so we really do not want to try and detail every nuance of what this means. However if everyone simply abides by the old addage that we should all “treat others as you want to be treated,” then no one will have any worries.
  • Selling or promoting to sell FAKE Shoyoroll gis or gear.

SUMMARY

Drama Free is primarily a transactional group. It is definitely not an opinion group. Everyone is safe to post their goods without the fear of the bullying and ridicule that many people suffer in the other Shoyoroll groups. There will be NO egos permitted here, NO drama permitted here…and NO bullies here either. That sort of bullshit may be tolerated and even encouraged in the other groups, but not in Shoyoroll Drama Free. Never. There is a ZERO tolerance policy toward hate, trolls, and negative comments.

Shoyoroll Secondary Market Group
Shoyoroll Drama Free Buy, Trade and Sell
(“Drama Free”)

PURPOSE

The purpose of Drama Free is to once-and-for-all have a safe, professional Facebook group and Instagram page dedicated to the purpose of buying, trading and selling YOUR Shoyoroll gis and gear. It’s that simple. No more and no less. There will be no drama, hate or negativity toward any members, their posts, their prices, or their comments permitted. This is a zero-tolerance, professional group that will never, ever put up with any of the unbelievably childish, rude, abusive, immature and oftentimes downright mean behavior that other buy/trade/sell groups not only allow, but seem to encourage.

Shoyoroll Drama free is primarily a transactional group for you to buy, trade and sell your own Shoyoroll gis and gear. We discourage other types of posts and prefer that socializing be done somewhere else. Of course, occasional friendly banter in comments of your friends' posts is fine, as well as posting a "Shout Out" to a fellow member for a mutually satisfactory transaction. We encourage that type of post. We just want to avoid scores of off-topic comments under a members post that turn into something other than the purpose of the post. Basically, it distracts from the intended transaction and therefore is not desirable.

GUMA MEMBERS

Since GUMA (and Uber GUMA, collectively “GUMA” herein) are such a large and valuable part of the Shoyoroll community as a whole, Drama Free wants to encourage their participation with our group. Because of Shoyoroll’s strict (and unfair by all accounts) policy against GUMA members selling gis and gear on-line (or at least that’s how it’s been presented…but it’s selectively enforced), we at Drama Free have come up with a plan whereby GUMA members can actively and openly participate in Drama Free without fear of retribution from Shoyoroll on this overly oppressive policy.

To start with, GUMA members can and are encouraged to have a “ghost” account to sell their items in Drama Free so their true identity can remain anonymous.

Before these “ghost” accounts are let into Drama Free, they must first register with our Admin so that we know who is really behind each ghost account. Admin will need to confirm the following:
  • Full name
  • Full address
  • Phone number
  • Email address (not the one for the Ghost Account, a legit one.)
  • Real FB or Instagram account
This information shall be kept in confidence with the Admin and only used by Admin to contact the person behind the ghost account in the event something goes sideways in a deal and the ghost account is disabled or unresponsive.

Under no circumstances will this information EVER be given to a third party, including (and especially) any representative of Shoyoroll, unless the account holder abuses the account and screws a group member over, or that account is used to troll in the group.

RULES

No Drama
This is Rule #1. No drama, no hate, no trolls EVER or the offending party is OUT immediately and FOREVER. Zero tolerance. No warning. S/he is just BANNED for good. Life is too short and no one needs this kind of bullshit.

98% of the fans and followers of the Shoyoroll brand (ShoyoFans) are great people. But that 2% seems to make it their calling in life to ruin it for everyone else. We won’t let that happen in Drama Free.

Maintain Privacy Of Fellow Members
Anyone sharing information gained from the Drama Free group with non-members are subject to being immediately banned from Drama Free. So, as the saying goes:

What happens in Drama Free, Stays in Drama Free.

POSTING

ALL posts must be approved by Admin.

Items Allowed
Shoyoroll and Shoyoroll items only. Gis, rash guards, hats, patches, stickers, etc., it doesn’t matter. As long it is an authentic Shoyoroll item, then it can be sold, traded or bought in the group.

Categories
  • For Sale
  • ISO (In Search Of, Looking For, Wanting to buy, etc.)
  • For Trade
That pretty much covers it. Drama free is a focused group for buying, selling and trading Shoyoroll gear. Non-transactional posts are discouraged, other than a "shout out" on completed deals. Those posts signal the conclusion of a mutually-satisfactory transaction and are encouraged.

Category Detail
For Sale - Pretty much all options are open and up to the seller.
  • Set a fixed price. (“For Sale, $350 + s/h”)
  • Set a target price with “OBO” (“For Sale, $400 OBO”)
  • Sell privately if you wish: “PM your offers”  (“For Sale, PM your offer to me directly”)
  • Sell via Auction.
In an Auction, the seller sets the:
  • Duration
  • Start price
  • Incremental bids ($10 or $5 or $50…up to the seller)
Here is a brief example: For Sale – Auction Style. Start Price is $250. Bid below in the comments section. Each successive bid should be at least $10 more than the previous bid. Auction ends at 11:59 PM PST on July 4, 2015”

PRICING PHILOSOPHY OF DRAMA FREE

Our philosophy is grounded in the fact that YOU own the item, and therefore YOU should be able to determine the terms and method of sale that is acceptable to you. However, once you set your path and announce it to the group, you need to abide by it. In other words, if a seller offers an item for sale at a fixed price (say $300 + shipping) and s/he gets an offer equal to that amount, then she needs to accept that offer. Full price offers should not be "shopped" around and a seller can’t wait and hope his “buddy” comes in with a higher offer. A seller simply needs to take the first offer that meets the stated price and conditions (if any) and work honestly toward completing the transaction. In other words, sellers should not play favorites pegging one member against another. That's simply unfair.

Also, if later someone PM’s a seller with a better offer, he must stick to the original deal if it has been accepted. There is no pulling the rug out from under a buyer once a deal has been agreed to. However, there is no harm in taking names for a backup offer in case the first one goes south. But a member can’t kick another member to the curb in the middle of a deal unless the $ or terms have changed as a result of actions taken by the buyer.

We’ve also witnessed auction sales whereby a minimum bid was established by the seller. And when only one bid came in (which in this case was equal to said Seller-established minimum or starting bid) the seller refused to sell the gi. This is unacceptable and grounds for immediate banishment from the group.

So, every seller is allowed to choose his method of sale and structure the sale to meet his desire. And in doing so, the seller is then obligated to abide by the method, rules, pricing and structure that he has established and promoted to the other members of the group. It is that simple.

MORE ON POSTING

Admin recommends addressing ALL of the following in all Sale posts at a minimum.
  • Photographs. If it's BNIB, then the reality is that you don't need many pics. But if it's USED, then a seller is encouraged to provide LOTS of pics so the buyers can determine condition.
  • Basics such as size and condition of course.
  • If selling USED, then basic measurements are required. It takes all of 10 minutes and will keep sellers from having to deal with an unhappy buyer who bought a shrunken gi that doesn't fit him. We have some graphics to use as a guideline if needed.
  • Where the gi will be shipped from - (USA, California) for example.
  • Who is paying for shipping costs and PayPal fees. It’s best to identify these up front.
  • Any limits on where you will ship to. Some people do not want to ship internationally, and if that’s the case, let everyone know up front in your post.
  • What type of payment(s) are acceptable. Common ones are PayPal, Venmo and Google Wallet. Facebook has a new payment system also, and of course there is Bitcoin and good old Western Union. If you will accept checks and cash in the mail, there are those options as well. I've done both successfully.

In Search Of (ISO)
For buyers (In Search Of, or “ISO” posts), please always start your post with: “ISO”, so sellers with lots of gis to sell can easily search for buyers looking. They can just use the group’s search function and search for those three letters. The alternative of: “Looking for…” or “In Search Of…” or, “I’d like to find…,” or other terms may work, but will keep your post from coming up in a seller’s “ISO” search. So let’s all use that simple acronym for all posts whereby you are looking to buy or trade for a gi or other item. ISO, ISO, ISO.

There are some basic criteria that buyers should seriously consider putting in your ISO posts. These will help narrow down the number of responses that he gets to (hopefully) only those that meet his stated criteria. It will also save all the sellers time because they won’t be sending out lots of information on and lists of items that do not meet these basic criteria (because the buyer failed to identify that criteria in his post).

For example:
  • State what size(s) are being sought.
  • What batch or batches are desired (or are NOT desired)
  • A price range, if working within a budget
  • If only BNIB is desired or if used is acceptable, and
  • What area of the world it needs to be shipped to. This is only fair to know because international shipping is not only more expensive, but some people just don’t want to deal with the customs forms to make it happen.
Admin strongly discourages and will likely not allow to post any overly generic posts such as:

“Looking for A2 BNIB, what you got? PM a list….”

That type of post may get a lot of responses, but it is far better if the poster is more specific than that. It is also unfair to all the people who are spending time getting their lists together and sending them to the prospective buyer when their A2 BNIB gis do not meet the prospective buyers' criteria for one reason or another THAT HE HAS FAILED TO MENTION in the post.

If a buyer has specific batches in mind that he wants to purchase, then he should list what they are. Alternatively, if he do NOT want specific batches, let everyone know that as well (e.g., “No Comps” or “No Absolutes or SGT’s.”)

If there is a price range in mind, that should be stated as well. There is nothing worse than someone who posts:

“Wanted, BNIB White Mamba, A2” and then you PM them with one that you have, only to find out they won’t pay more than $200 when the market is $700 or more. Hey, it’s a free country, so anyone can feel free to be as unrealistic as he wants to. But he should just let everyone know up front so there are not twenty people wasting their time taking photos and replying to a post when the buyer wants to purchase a BNIB rarity at less than 1/3rd of market value.

Basically, these type of posts are a waste of everyone's time. So it is strongly encouraged that buyers do their  homework first, before asking hundreds of people to do it for them.

For Trade (FT)
If you have something to trade (FT), state not only what you have (and be detailed) but what you are looking for.
  • Batch
  • Condition
  • Photos of your gi that you own and want to trade
  • Size (of both what you have and what you want)
And be aware that many trade posts are unclear as to which gi you HAVE and which one you WANT. For example, I’ve seen the following type of post. Try and figure out which gi the seller HAS and which he is ISO:

BNIB A2 Americana for BNIB A2 Ring?

Please, the bottom line is this…the more information that you provide up front, and the clearer and more detailed the post is, then the easier it will be for people to identify whether or not they have something that you might want, and if you have something that they want in trade.
A better post for the above example would be:

FT, I have a BNIB A2 Ring and am ISO a BNIB A2 Americana for a straight trade.
If you have an Americana and are interested, please PM me. Thanks.

Now, isn’t that much clearer? And it took all of 15 seconds to type. The more time invested in clarifying what you want up front, will save you 10x's that in replying to people who don't understand the post.

Oh, one more comment on trades. Please be aware that every gi does NOT have the same value. Hell, I had one guy actually want to make a straight trade (which means gi-for-gi with no $’s involved), where he had a Rebel (I think it was) and wanted my Illest. And then he had the audacity to publicly post that I was “playing games” when I told him he’d have to add some $ to the deal to make that trade happen.

Comments On Posts
There will be NO negative comments allowed on any post. NONE. This includes seemingly innocuous comments such as: “Price is too high,” or ANYTHING similar which might negatively impact the sale.

This is a SALE group, not an opinion group. Negative opinions are not permitted on your or anyone else's posts. Again, do onto others....

No Poaching
There is ABSOLUTELY NO Poaching of Posts/Threads.

If a member posts: “ISO an A1L Rio Koi, BNIB” then others should NOT comment… “Yea...me too” or “I am looking for an A2 if anyone has one”…That is poaching and it’s disrespectful to all fellow member (who took the time to make the post). Poachers may or may not be warned before being banned from the group. But for sure, any chronic poacher will be booted.

Pricing
It’s the seller’s gi to sell, and it is NOT ANYONE ELSES PLACE to judge his asking price. Anyone doing so will be banned from the group immediately.

SELLING BASICS

Some basics to selling are important and will be enforced.
  • Condition: BNIB or Used. If “used” then a detailed description is needed of the condition and any stains, holes, rips, smells, etc., AND many photos are needed. Measurements are also encouraged. And please sellers should BE HONEST about the shrinkage of the gi. I’d say a full 50% of the used gis that I have purchased for my own use DID NOT FIT because they were shrunk. That is unacceptable. Provide measurements and BE HONEST.
  • Size
  • Shipping & Payment: How shipping will be handled. Any restrictions. Who pays. How much. And what methods of payment a seller will accept/will take.

WAYS TO GET KICKED OUT OF DRAMA FREE

  • Making negative or derogatory (e.g.., troll) comments under someone’s post.
  • Failing to keep to our policy of: What happens in Drama-Free, stays in Drama-Free.  In other words, people that are just here just to spy for the hate groups will be found out and booted.
  • Screwing someone over in a deal. This can take many forms, so we really can’t detail what this means.
  • Promoting to sell or selling FAKE Shoyoroll items.
This isn't rocket science. All we expect of all of the members is to simply “treat others as you want to be treated. ” If we all do this, then no one will have any worries.

SUMMARY

Drama Free is primarily a transaction group. It is definitely NOT an opinion group. Everyone is safe to post their goods without the fear of the bullying and ridicule that many of you suffer in the other SYR groups. There will be NO egos permitted here, NO drama permitted here…and NO bullies here either. That sort of bullshit may be tolerated and even encouraged in the other groups, but not here. Never.  There is a ZERO tolerance policy toward hate, trolls, and negative comments.

All kidding aside, the gi is black and only available in black at this time, however in 2016 a white version will be available. So keep your eyes peeled on BJJ New Gear (@bjjnewgear) for that drop announcement.

Where to Buy

http://www.wolfhoundfightwear.com/

The Journey

The trip from Ireland to Hawaii took about a week. Considering that is 7,000 miles, that is a reasonable time frame.
As do most gi brands, Wolfhound charges the buyer for shipping. Their charge to a US-based buyer is only €25 ($28 USD). However, per the stamp on the poly shipping container it actually cost Wolfhound €36.50 (almost $42 USD).

It appears that Wolfhound has absorbed 1/3rd of the shipping cost. And at only $28 to the buyer, that’s significantly less than the cheapest shipping method from the US to Ireland at approximately $62 (USPS). All in all, that’s a very inexpensive shipping cost and about equal-to or even less-than many US-based BJJ Brands charge to ship within country.

The Landing

The delivery of the gi was uneventful, which is what any buyer would want. The bag was delivered unopened and sealed with no puncture marks. Typically, gis are either shipped in these thick mil poly bags or cardboard boxes (USPS, FedEx). And while the boxes are seemingly more resilient to the abuse of the shipping process, the thick mil poly bag is actually preferred because it keeps out any moisture that might be encountered along the journey.

All it will take to convince anyone of this is to have a white gi that is packaged in a color-dyed cloth bag in a cardboard box get wet during the journey. Then that once-white but now purple (or red or green) stained gi will make you a believer too. And yes, this has happened to me. Besides, a gi is flexible and doesn’t require a hard sided box for shipping. There is nothing to break.

Initial Impressions

The first thing that stood out is the deep black color of the gold weave jacket. And of course, the same depth of color of the ripstop pants. No cloth bag was included with the gi, but hey, for $114 (gi) + $28 (shipping), or $142 delivered, who’s to complain? Besides, 99% of those gi bags have little use anyway, unless you don’t have a gym bag. And yes, I do know a few guys at my gym who actually use the gi bag to lug their gear back and forth; but I question their dedication to the sport. No gym bag!? What’s with that?

The jacket, at 550 GSM, actually felt lighter than expected. I have another 550 GSM gold weave jacket that I use on occasion, and that one is a bit heavier. And the 10 oz. pants give off a durable feel right from the get go. More so than you’d expect from 10 oz. pants.

Examination

Jacket

The jacket is constructed of 550 GSM Gold weave with a ripstop covered collar. The stitching, piping and seam tape area all contrast green throughout the jacket.

The back is a single piece with a reinforced layer in the yoke area.

The artwork on the outside of the jacket is plentiful. On the front adjacent to the left lapel is the word, “Wolfhound” embroidered in a large, silver Celtic/Gothic-style font (2” x 9” in size). At the bottom of the left lapel is a woven tag (1.5” x 6.25”) with the flags of Japan, Ireland and Brazil side-by-side.

Also along the bottom of the skirt there is seam tape, which is also green in keeping with the theme of the gi. In black lettering the word, “Wolfhound” alternates with a black image (with red eye) of a wolf. The seam tape is not scratchy like some, but also is not folded over prior to stitching.

On the back of the jacket, just below the neck area is the same silver Wolfhound embroidery as along the front lapel, except this is slightly larger at 11” x 2.5.” Immediately below that is the circular 5.25” Wolfhound multicolored logo.

At the bottom of the jacket skirt, 1.5” above the green seam tape, is the phrase: Tada gan iarracht, also in the same Celtic/Gothic-style font (14” x 1.5”). This phrase means: Nothing without effort.

Despite the abundance of branding on the back of the jacket, there is plenty of room for a large school patch or multiple patches of your sponsors.

The arms are fairly free of any design except for a two items. First, a 5” round Wolfhound, multi-colored logo embroidered on the right shoulder/upper arm area.

And secondly, green seam tape along the outside of the sleeve cuffs. Yes, you read that correctly, the seam tape is on the outside of the sleeve.

In turning the jacket inside out, the following is observed.

The green seam tape runs along the entire length of the ripstop covered collar from the bottom of one skirt to the bottom of the other. A sublimated lining along the yoke area is overlaid with the brand and size tags in the middle, neck area. This same sublimated lining (artfully printed with ranked, belted chess pieces) is also used adjacent to the green cloth piping that reinforces the skirt slits.

One noticeable aspect to the jacket is that ALL of the stitching is uncannily straight. And there are no missed stitches or hanging threads anywhere on or inside the jacket. Also, for those of you that think these matter, there are no armpit reinforcements as often found in Jiu Jitsu gis. We’re not judging, some people prefer them, others don’t think that they do anything other than add weight. We are merely letting you know that this jacket is sans any such reinforcements.

Pants

The main body of the pants is constructed of 10 oz. black ripstop material. The only immediately noticeable variation from that is the gold weave gusset. The stitching is a contrast green along all seams, including the knee reinforcements. The two belt loops, side-vent piping and drawstring rope are all green as well.

The rope is one that barely stretches (approximately 5%), came tightly pre-knotted with the ends surgically singed to prevent fraying of the rope during washing. This singed area is notably smooth with no rough areas. If you are wondering why this aspect has been pointed out, just have one scrape across your face or eye when your partner is on top in north-south and you’ll quickly know why a smooth burn on the ends of the pants rope is important.

Like the jacket, the artwork on the gi pants consists of the word, “Wolfhound” embroidered in a large, silver Celtic/Gothic-style font down the side thighs of both legs (1.5” x 8” in size).

The only other aspect is the circular 4” Wolfhound logo found toward the bottom of the left-front pant leg.

The location of this circular logo is right where the interior knee reinforcement ends, and 3.5” from the bottom of the pants cuff. This is mentioned because per the IBJJF uniform rules, a 15 CM (or 5.9”) area, when measured from the bottom of the pants cuff, must be free of patches. To view the IBJJF rules on Uniforms, click here. According to Wolfhound, this logo is considered a “brand tag” which is allowed by IBJJF within this 15 CM area, and none of their many athletes have ever had it become an issue in any IBJJF event.

Upon turning the pants inside out, the following are observed.
  • The brand, washing and size tag are found at the top of the pants, squarely in the center.
  • The side split on both hips is reinforced with an extra layer of ripstop.
  • All major seams are triple stitched (contrast green stitching)
  • A small, triangular piece of ripstop material is used as a reinforcement in two places on the gusset.
  • The knee reinforcements begin in the upper thigh area, run across the entire width of the pants, spanning 10”, are 15” long and end 7” from the bottom of the pants cuff. Most notably this reinforcement is made of a tightly knit, pearl weave material. Nice and think and represents some true padding.
  • There is seam tape at the bottom of the pants cuff. It is also green in keeping with the theme of the gi. In black lettering the word, “Wolfhound” alternates with a black image (with red eye) of a wolf. The seam tape is not scratchy like some, but also is not folded over prior to stitching.
  • The stitching is very straight with only few loose thread ends that could be trimmed. There is one area of missed stitches that is noticeable. But other than that, the stitching is well done.

The Fit

At the time of testing of this Wolfhound gi I am 5’10” and a chubby 230 lbs. To me, the A3 gi fit really well for my height, and the pants fit and felt fine while drilling and rolling, but the jacket was a bit tight around my fat stomach. As to be expected.

In any discussion of gi sizing I have to address a major pet peeve of mine. And that is:

THERE IS NO UNIVERSAL SIZE CHART FOR BJJ GIS. NONE.

Each brand has their own cut and size chart. Sure, many brands do overlap where a grappler will fit the same size in each of those few brands, but that is user-specific dependent upon many factors including: height, weight, body type, fit preferences AND which brands we are talking about. An A3 CTRL fits a lot like an A3 Shoyoroll, but more like an A4 Scramble and A4 Atama.

So it is important to understand that not all gi brands are sized the same, and while you might be an A2 in certain brands, you are most certainly not an A2 in EVERY brand. Before any purchase it is of the utmost importance to examine that brands own size chart.

The important aspect to fit and sizine for a reviewer to consider is: how this gi fits per the brands size chart. So let’s take a look at that.

Wolfhound has a great size chart (see above, also linked here). It is in both metric (cm and kg) and imperial units (feet and lbs.). So there is no need for anyone to do the conversion. Per their size chart the A3 gi that I received should fit grapplers of the following range of height and weight:

5’9” (175 cm) to 6’2” (188 cm) and 154 lbs (70 kg) to 243 lbs (110 kg)

From my experience, I would say that the true range of this gi is from 5’8” to 6’0” in height, and 190 to 220 lbs.

Now, if you like your gis to fit tight or smaller, then yes, if you are taller or heavier you can consider this gi. Or vice versa if you prefer a roomier gi or one that is a bit longer, then by all means if you are 180 lbs you might like this. Plus, I did not try and shrink the gi, I have never done that to any gi. It’s always been washed in cold water and line dried. So there is the possibility of additional shrinkage if you so desire.

Upon initial cold-water washing and line drying I did not notice any substantial degree of shrinkage and it appeared to be in the normal range of 3% to 4% overall.

The Feel

Overall I liked the feel of this gi. My preference is soft gold weave like the Dabilla Series 2.0, and this one did not seem to stretch during rolling like some gold weaves will do. I’ve always preferred rip stop pants, and these are no exception. The gold weave gusset is a nice touch, and my personal preference. The pearl weave lining in the pants acts as decent knee padding, compared to gis that only add an additional layer of ripstop or twill, which really isn’t much of a padding. And unlike a gold weave knee reinforcement, pearl is knitted tighter and less abrasive on the skin of your knees.

Despite being 550 GSM, the jacket did not feel overly heavy or warm during training or rolling. The pants never became loose or untied. I prefer a non-stretchy rope like the one in the Wolfhound gi over those that stretch a lot. I tend to find myself retying those stretchy ropes at least once during every class while the Wolfhound rope never needed to be retied and the pants never felt as if they were loose.

The only aspect to this gi that did not feel right to me is the seam tape on the outside of the sleeves. If I were to keep the gi I’d remove that. I often wipe my forehead while rolling/drilling (when I don’t have access to a towel that is with my gear bag), and the seam tape was a little abrasive after a while. But other than that, this gi feels great in every aspect.

As a side note, this feature (outside seam tape) will not be included on future production of this gi. So once the existing inventory is sold out, this will no longer be an issue. It's always nice when a brand owner continues to seek to improve their products. And that's the case here. Kudos to Wolfhound.

Durability

This is one aspect that can’t really be addressed in a review unless the reviewer comes back after 6 months and a year or more and updates the review. And that we will do. The gi is now in the rotation of a purple belt and it’ll be used every week, at least once a week. So over time we’ll come back to the blog and update this aspect of the review.
